I took inspiration for my top hat design from Moulin Rouge the musical (2018) and the character/costume of Harold Ziegler, the ‘ring master’.
The film Bugsy Malone (1976) —specifically the character of Tallulah, provided inspiration for the cloche hat. Set in prohibition America, my hat features a vintage late 1920s brooch.
Each of these hats were created using classic techniques. For the top hat I used buckram shaped around a hat block. The cloche was created from a felt capaline and also moulded around a hat block. Finally the witch is a flat pattern I created, I then used buckram again to create and hold the shape.

The antagonist from The Wizard of Oz (1939), provided the inspiration for this hat—the Wicked Witch of the West.
